Mayor Cheri Kelley was elected to the City of Norwalk City Council in March 1997 and re-elected in March 2001, 2005 and 2009. She served as Mayor from March 2001, 2004-2005, and 2009-2010.
Ms. Kelley was appointed by Councilmember Robert "Bob" White as a commissioner to the Consumer/Rental Mediation Board in 1991. She served as Chairman of this commission from 1995-1997. Appointed by Councilmember Judith Brennan, she also served as Chairman of the Blue Ribbon Commission from 1993-1997. During this time, the commission prepared a report to the City Council on "Factors Effecting Residential Property Values in Norwalk."
Mayor Kelley serves as Chair of the Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA) Gateway Cities Sector Board. Additionally she represents Norwalk as President of the Greater Los Angeles County Vector Control District and Chair of the Southeast Area Animal Control Authority (SEAACA). Mayor Kelley is past president of the California Contract Cities Association that represents over 75 cities.
Ms. Kelley remains active with several community-based organizations, serving on the Board of Directors for Soroptimist International of Norwalk and President of the Norwalk Arts & Sports Foundation. She is a member of the Norwalk Woman's Club, League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) Council #2043, Norwalk Community Coordinating Council, Norwalk Elks Lodge #2142, Norwalk Chamber of Commerce, Friends of the Library and Friends of Hargitt House.
On March 27, 2000, Assembly member Thomas Calderon selected Ms. Kelley as the 2000 Woman of the Year. Mayor Kelley has been a State Director of the California Association of Realtors since 1991. She has served on numerous committees, lending her expertise to shape legislation for the protection of private property rights. She serves as the Regional representative on the Local Government Committee. She currently serves as President of the Pacific West Association of Realtors.
Mayor Kelley places public safety and the infrastructure as top priorities for the City of Norwalk. In the past four years over $30.8 million in public works projects have been approved. Economic development plays an important role to ensure the ability to provide essential services to the residents of Norwalk. Many national chain retailers have been added to the Norwalk business community.
Mayor Kelley is proud of the variety of recreational and educational programming for all ages offered by the City of Norwalk. Expanding and improving these programs is an ongoing effort. The overall beautification of the City of Norwalk will increase property values for all homeowners and bring a real sense of pride to every resident.
Mayor Kelley and her husband, Del Lindgren, are Broker/Owners of Home Town Realtors. Home Town Realtors has served the community of Norwalk in the same location for over 50 years. Ms. Kelley is a native Californian and has lived in Norwalk since 1972. She has two grown daughters, Tami and Treena, two grandsons, Brandon and Tyler and a granddaughter, Kailey.
