Gordon Stefenhagen first joined the Norwalk City Council on January 5, 1993, when he was appointed to fill the un-expired term of Grace F. Napolitano, who is now a member of the U.S. Congress. He was elected to the City Council in April 1994 and re-elected in 1999, 2003, and 2007. Mr. Stefenhagen was selected to serve as Mayor in 1996, 2001, 2005 and 2010.

As a member of the Norwalk City Council, Mr. Stefenhagen serves as Chairman of the 91/605 Freeway Corridor Cities Committee, as Past President of the Gateway Cities Council of Governments, and is a delegate to the League of California Cities. Mr. Stefenhagen also serves as Chair of the Los Angeles County Workforce Investment Board Policy Committee and the Los Angeles County Library Commission, and as Director for the LA County Sanitation Districts 2 and 18.

Mr. Stefenhagen is also an active member of several community-based organizations, including: LULAC Council #2043, VFW Post 7138 Life Member, American Legion Post 359, the Norwalk Chamber of Commerce and is a member of the Pacific West Association of Realtors. He serves as Chair of the Mayor's Prayer Breakfast Committee, Board Member on the Norwalk Community Coordinating Council, and Vice President of the Friends of the Norwalk Libraries. In 1997, he was awarded the honor of Citizen of the Year by the Los Angeles County Public Library and in 2002 was the recipient of the Patriot's Award, which is presented to individuals who have performed outstanding community service by the American Heritage Commission.

Mr. Stefenhagen enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1967 and served as an Education Specialist for 13 months in the Republic of South Korea. In this capacity, he trained young military men to read and write. He is a Chicago native and received his BSC degree from De Paul University. Today, he is an employee of Norwalk Realty where he sells and rents property in the Southeast area of Los Angeles County.

Mr. Stefenhagen is married and has been a resident of Norwalk for over twenty-five years.
