MISSION STATEMENT
To ethically and impartially recruit, select and train City employees. To administer the City's risk management program including, ensuring the safety of all City employees.

DESCRIPTION OF ACTIVITIES
The Human Resources Department manages the recruitment and selection process for full-time and part-time positions that are available through the City of Norwalk. Human Resources conducts new employee orientations and administers the employee benefits program, service awards program and the performance evaluation system. The department provides advice and assistance to other departments relative to personnel matters; maintains the City's classification and compensation plan; provides job-related training; conducts labor relations activities including employee discipline matters, employer/employee negotiations and administers the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement. The Risk Management function, which includes worker's compensation and general liability claims against the City and the City-wide Safety Program, are managed by Human Resources. The department also maintains employee records.
