Health & Safety Update
From Norwalk City Manager Mike Egan

Dear Resident:

Sewer System repairs and upgrades are necessary to address public health and safety needs.

Norwalk's sewer system is old, deteriorating and reaching the end of its anticipated lifespan. Most of Norwalk's sewer lines were constructed in the 1950's - some were constructed as early as 1935. Norwalk's sewer system includes aging clay pipes, undersized sewer mains, and other outdated infrastructure.

Unfortunately, no funding is available for necessary upgrades other than emergency reserves and city funds already devoted to important city services such as police protection, emergency response and senior/youth programs. Repairs and upgrades cannot be made without additional funds.

To ensure the health and safety of the community, the City of Norwalk is considering sewer service rates for property owners, a common practice in many other California cities.

The City Council will consider this issue at a public hearing scheduled on Tuesday, June 4 at 6 p.m. at the Norwalk City Council Chambers, 12700 Norwalk Blvd. For information on the proposed sewer service charge, including

assistance in determining the amount of the proposed sewer service charge for your property, refer to the public hearing notice or contact the City of Norwalk Public Services Department at (562) 929-5511.

Sincerely,
City Manager Mike Egan
